Embrace Yourself Today

I found this quote by Elizabeth Gilbert and it immediately got me thinking.

So many people try to change their life to make it perfect, or to what they believe perfection is. What they don’t realize is that everyone’s idea of what is perfect is different.

Maybe, instead of changing who we are to meet some standard that may never be achievable in our heads, we should look at our flaws and love them for making us unique.

I think that once someone can come to accept their quirks and accept that their life is one lovely “mess”; it will change how they choose to live their life and maybe realize that what they thought was wrong, was what actually made them perfect all along.

My challenge for myself and all of you today is to find one thing that you think is wrong or could be changed and think of how it makes you unique. Think of how much different your life would be without it. Embrace it! Because you are one glorious mess.

What do you want to love about yourself today? What makes you special? How do you interpret this quote?

  1. I love this quote! I have learned to really embrace and love myself, but it took a long time to get there. There are things I don’t like and I’m working to change (being more of a planner and being more assertive in life) but overall I love each flaw I have!

    1. Hey Colin! That’s so amazing and those are definitely two positive things to wanna make better but not change! How do you think you can become a better planner in your life?

      1. I have started meal planning (I am working on going vegan so it is taking a lot of planning and follow through) and every morning when I get up the first thing I do is write down three goals for the day. I’m hoping then I will evolve and get better with planning out my weeks and in turn start making more conscious decisions for my future. 🙂

      2. Wow that’s a lot of work! I have a few friends who went Vegan and really love that lifestyle. They definitely seem happier with it and i have tried to take some tips from them about eating better. Keep me posted on how it’s going 🙂

  2. I enjoyed the quote and your post. We should always take the time for self reflection because in doing so, you realize that there are some things about yourself that no matter how hard you try you’re not going to be able to change; then you realize how ludicrous it is expecting someone else to change to fit your expectations. You’ll never know how to love and appreciate everything that makes a person who they are, if you can’t first love and appreciate everything that makes you you.

    1. I 100% agree with you! The world will never change for you but when people see a positivity in you it can affect how they view you and your life. The impact of realizing your special characteristics first and showing a strength in them to others is what matters more than anything. I love your insight on that.

  3. Girl you are wise beyond your years. I mean that. What I need to embrace about myself is that I’m not always in the best mood and it does out people off. But it never stops me from helping others or being kind and generous. Those who dare to get close to me know me as a very kind person. I guess I have to embrace the bad moods as well or maybe I wouldn’t like helping others as much?

    1. Thank you for sharing that with me! I understand what you mean when sometimes it has just been a bad day and people get a bad impression of you. It definitely doesn’t make you feel much better either. I think it is definitely a great idea to embrace those bad days because it makes you so much stronger during the happy times. Helping others is also just such a mood booster overall, so maybe the cures to bad days are just helping someone else out 🙂
I also really appreciate your kind words, they mean a lot!

      1. Yes it is. I find helping very helpful. I’m in a couple of FB groups and honestly they have changed my life. I was alone until I found them. Now I have a group of women who help each other and encourage each other through the hell of the bad days and the glory of the good days. 💛

      2. That’s so great! That makes me happy to hear how people are improving their lives! Please keep me posted on how everything’s going 🙂
